A Bay Area native, owner Denise Vickers—the only daughter of a dentist with a
sweet tooth—grew up making dessert. While working for a bakery in college, she fell in love with the business of baking and dreamed of opening her own high quality bakery—where everything is made from scratch. A bakery where everything tastes wonderful because it's all made from premium ingredients, by talented people who really love to bake.
In 2002, that dream became reality. Walnut Creek Baking Company opened its
doors at its current location on Locust Street in downtown Walnut Creek. True to her vision, the bakery uses butter in everything! No trans-fat hydrogenated
anything—only real butter, flour, cane sugar, fresh-cracked eggs, just-squeezed lemon juice, pure vanilla, and Guittard chocolate.
Every day you can watch the bakers at work through the large glass wall that
divides the retail store from the kitchen. They create moist muffins, buttery
scones, gooey cinnamon rolls, decadent brownies, tart lemon bars, crisp biscotti,
and mouth-watering cookies—not to mention seasonal tarts, pies, and specialties.
Customers delight while witnessing talented decorators create adorable cupcakes
and out-of-this-world cakes—with designs that range from playful to elegant—for
just about any occasion you can imagine.
Through the years the bakery has grown and the awards have accumulated—
showing that customers agree that sweet treats made with high-quality ingredients
